Joyce M. Carlson, 72, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at her home.
She was born June 24, 1940 in Bucyrus, Ohio, and moved to Vero Beach in 1978.
She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts.
She began working for Indian River County in 1985 and retired as Director of Human Services.
Mrs. Carlson was a board member of the Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council, Inc., and served as board President since 2006. She served as Panel Chairman of the Indian River United Way Citizens Review Process for many years and was a lead staff member of the Children's Services Advisory Committee of Indian River County.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin J. Carlson of Vero Beach; son, Chuck (Lisa) Bresler of Bloomdale, OH; daughters, Terri (Roger) Virost of San Antonio, TX and Kim (Andy) Jones of Bloomdale, OH; mother, Frances "Aldora" Johnston of Wayne, OH; step-daughters, Nancy Cox of Kirkland, WA and Amy Kredlo of Raymond, WA; sister, Barbara (Keith) Sanderson of Marion, OH; and six grandchildren, Sarah and Paul Virost, Amanda and Brett Jones, and Ryan and Grady Cox.
She was predeceased by her brother, Michael L. Johnston and father, Ross Clifford Johnston.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
