Jerry Wilson Knauss, a wonderful husband, father and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 with his family at his side.
Jerry was born on June 6, 1945 to John D. and Onalee Knauss and grew up in Dowling, Ohio. He married Nada Sue Austin on August 22, 1964 and she survives.
He is also survived by his son, Daniel R. and wife Hope, San Diego, CA; daughter Carolyn S. Knauss and her partner, Laurie Burkland, Columbus, OH; brother, Gary and wife Flo, of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Sandra Garno and Linda Domer, Bowling Green, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry.
Jerry was proud to be a sheet metal worker beginning his career at Modern Heating in Bowling Green. He then joined the Toledo Area Sheet Metal Workers International Association and served his apprenticeship at Jackson Sheet Metal in Bowling Green. As a journeyman he worked through Local 6 for various Toledo contractors and for Local 33 for a brief time. In the late 1970s Jerry was employed in the sheet metal skilled trades department of Chrysler Fostoria Foundry until they closed. He ended his career in the skilled trades at Chrysler Toledo Machining in Perrysburg, OH. It broke his heart to have to retire in 2001 due to disability.
Jerry loved to play bingo and participate in aquatics at Wood County Hospital. He cherished all of his family, friends and his dog Mandy. He had a special place in heart for his aquatics friends.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 1 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, Ohio, where memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. James Budke.
Refreshments will be served at the Riverview Banquet Centre, Pemberville, OH immediately following the memorial services.
Interment will be in New Belleville Ridge Cemetery, Dowling, OH at a later date.
Consideration for memorial contributions are: Wood County Humane Society, church of the donor's choice or the charity of the donor choice.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jerry's extended family, friends and special neighbors, Dick and Kathy Schultz, for their visits, cards, food, help, prayers and encouragement over the past five months. You all meant the world to Jerry and to his family too.
