Jeff Blake Whitmer was born October 7, 1963 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
He went home to be with his Lord on July 25, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his sister Tara Jane Roper, his Grandparents JD and Jerusha Stuckey, and Earl and Agnes Whitmer.
Surviving are his parents, Ned and Jane (Stuckey) Whitmer of Bowling Green, daughter and son-in-law Abby Rae (Whitmer) and Blake Southward of Arlington, OH, brother Joe Rice of Mesa, AZ, sister Molly Whitmer of Bowling Green, and sister and brother-in-law Amanda (Whitmer) and Sven Finnis of Crownsville, MD. He is also survived by three nephews, a niece, a grandniece and several loving cousins, aunts and uncles.
Jeff's passion in life was being in nature. His gift was working with animals. During his teenage years he began working with cattle.
As an adult he worked as a freelance cattle fitter and herdsman spending many years traveling the United States and Canada on the cattle show circuit. Because of his talents he became sought after by many fellow cattlemen.
Throughout his career he was awarded various national championships in the United States and Canada. In 2001 he was awarded the Charolais Herdsman of the Year.
His hobbies included watching NASCAR, visiting his favorite fishing hole, and going on a good snipe hunt.
Family members and friends will always remember Jeff by his big heart and good sense of humor. He prepared many meals for loved ones on his grill and smoker. He took a lot of care when selecting a gift for a family member or a friend and was very generous with those in need. We can all learn from his caring ways.
Friends and family may call at Dunn Funeral Home Wednesday, July 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Snyder officiating with others contributing. Burial will follow at Plain Township Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to NWCCC - Search Program, 1740 E. Gypsy Lane Road, Bowling Green, OH.
