Irene-Michel-Obit-PhotoIrene E. Michel, age 87, of Bowling Green, OH, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
She was born on May 8, 1926 in Fremont, OH to Benjamin and Edna (Deno) Magsig. On November 6, 1948 she married Donald Michel in Luckey, OH and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Irene was a Registered Nurse and graduated from Flower Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 as a Cadet Nurse. She worked at Flower Hospital for four years, Wood County Hospital for 30 years and also did some private duty nursing. Irene always kept her RN license current.
Her memberships included: Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, where she was Past President of the Women of the Church, Chairman of Stewardship for 16 years, church elder for three years, Daughters of Zion and Hannah-Sarah Circles and taught Sunday school for many years, Troy-Webster Legion Auxiliary Post #240 and Wood County Hospital Guild.
In her spare time she volunteered for both Bridge Hospice and the Red Cross. Irene was an avid reader, loved to embroider quilts for family members and enjoyed all types of music.
Irene is survived by her son: David Michel, daughter: Kathleen (David) McCann, grandchildren: Leslie (Brian) Myers, D.J. (Ashley) Michel, Andrew (Jeanna) McCann, Matthew McCann, Katherine (Kevin) Kindy, great-grandchildren: Melody and Jameson Myers and brother: Richard (Janet) Magsig.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Evelyn (Merritt) Jones and loving husband of 49 years: Donald Michel.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, OH, with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. James Budke. Interment will be in Pemberville Cemetery, Pemberville, OH.
There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services.
Consideration for memorial contributions are to: Eastwood Education Foundation-Donald and Irene Michel Scholarship Fund, Zion Lutheran Church or Bridge Hospice.
