Harold-Johson-obitHarold John Johnson, 78, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 in Bowling Green.
He was born June 15, 1935 in Mancelona, Michigan, to Harold and Areldene (Oldt) Johnson. He married Eve Blass on August 24, 1981 and she survives in Bowling Green.
Hal was a 1953 graduate of University of Michigan High School where he was an Eagle Scout and a member of the football, swimming and track teams. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and his PhD from the University of Illinois. He went on to become a University Professor and Psychologist. He served as a clinical faculty member at BGSU from 1966 to 1992. Harold continued to supervise clinical graduate students until summer of 2012.
He was chairman of the Psychology Department at BGSU from 1971 to 1975. He was also Director of the Psychological Services Center for a period of time in the 1980s. Following his retirement in 1992, he was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus.
In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Hal was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and passed these interests on to his children.
Along with his wife, Eve, Harold is survived by sons, Erik Johnson of Apex, North Carolina, Benjamin Johnson of Bowling Green, Ohio, daughters, Jennifer Johnson of Wardsboro, Vermont, Margaret Conn of Port Orange, Florida, and Victoria Johnson of Bowling Green, Ohio, sister, Barbara Boyer of Linden, Michigan, first wife, Sue Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida, and three grandchildren, Samuel Johnson and Madeline Johnson of Apex, North Carolina, and Melanie Conn of Gainesville, Florida.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday. July 20, 2013 from 2 to 5pm at Sam B's Restaurant located at 163 South Main Street in Bowling Green.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bridge Hospice Care Center, 1069 Klotz Road, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402 or Wood County Committee on Aging, 305 North Main Street, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402.
Arrangements are being handled by DUNN FUNERAL HOME located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W. Wooster St.
