LEIPSIC – Gerald H. Smith, 93, of Leipsic, died at 8:11 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Rita’s Putnam
County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf.
He was born November 3, 1920 in Leipsic to the late Mark and Gertha (White) Smith. On December 21, 1941
he married Virginia L. Edwards and she survives in Leipsic.
Also surviving is a son: Paul D. (Sue) Smith of Haymarket, VA; two grandsons: Chad (Jack Trinco) Smith
and Blake (Alicia) Smith; and two great-granddaughters: Corin and Doria Smith.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Dale and Forrest Smith and a sister: Marie Sexton.
Gerald was co-owner of Weston Poultry Farm until 1985. He was part owner of Lawndale Mobile Plaza in
Weston.
He was a WWII Army Master Sergeant and participated in seven invasions in the Philippines.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Leipsic. He was past member of Otsego Board of Education,
member of Free and Accepted Masons Weston Lodge #560 where he received his 65-year pin in 2011, and
co-member of Ottawa Free and Accepted Masons #325, a member of Scottish Rite-Valley of Toledo, Zenobia
Shrine of Toledo, past president of Zenobia Campers, a member of VFW Post #9547 of Leipsic, and the
American Legion Post #409 of Weston. He was on the Custar Bank Board of Directors.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with
Pastor Tim Eding officiating.
Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic, with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion
and VFW.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
