George King, 85, of Findlay and formerly of North Baltimore, passed away at 2:08 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at his residence.
He was born on December 27, 1927 to the late William and Elizabeth (Perky) King in Deshler, OH. George married Shirley Rider on March 15, 1952 and she preceded him in death on December 1, 1995.
He is survived by five children: Pauline (Jim) VanScoder of North Baltimore, Larry King of Findlay, Danny (Diane) King of North Carolina, Karen (George) Bishop of Findlay and Laura King of Findlay; eight grandchildren: Shelly (Chris) Nagel, John VanScoder, Betsy (Vahn) Klink, Sara Dulaney, Charlie King, Eric King, Kyle King and Michael Bishop and 11 great-grandchildren. George had six sisters and two brothers. Surviving is a brother: Bill (Virginia) King of Bowling Green; a brother-in-law, Bus Erford of Port Clinton and two sisters-in-law: Ethel Ferguson of North Baltimore and Irene Rider of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chrissy King.
George served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran.
He worked in construction and enjoyed building bridges all over Ohio.
George enjoyed woodworking and made lighthouses, windmills, bird houses and chairs for his family and friends to enjoy. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Ohio State fan and enjoyed watching football and basketball and doing puzzles.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, North Baltimore. Father Arthur Niewiadomski will officiate and burial will follow in New Maplewood Cemetery. Full military rites will be performed by the North Baltimore American Legion Post #539.
