Fern O. Sipe, age 101, of Bowling Green, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Fern was born in 1912 to
Henry and Myrtle Dauterman, and was a 1930 graduate of Bowling Green High School.
Upon her retirement in 1985 as Residence Director of YMCA of Newark, Ohio she returned to Bowling Green
to be with her family and childhood friends.
She was an active member of the Village View Church of Christ and a member of its sewing and quilting
group. She was a member of the BG Hospital Guild and the sewing ladies at the hospital; the BG Senior
Club at the Senior Center; the Portage Center Arbor of Gleaner Life Insurance Company; and she received
two Community Service Awards from Gleaners.
She had a musical family and always enjoyed the music jam sessions. She had a great time playing cards
with her many friends. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting and supplied her friends and family with
many beautiful quilts and wall hangings.
Fern was well known for her magic shows. She preformed even into her 90’s and was still able to amaze and
astound her audience. She was also well known for her recitation of "Petey The Snake"
She was preceded in death by her husband Benton Sipe, whom she married in 1937 and who died in 1969. She
was also preceded in death by two sisters: Edna and Margaret, and five brothers, Roy, Andrew, Harold,
Donald and Merl.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Jerry (Marilyn) Sipe of Newark, Ohio, and daughter
Linda (Robert) Grunden of Marysville, Ohio, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces
and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Friday February 7, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 1460 W.
Wooster St., , and her funeral service will be on Saturday February 8, 2014 at 4 p.m. in the Village
View Church of Christ, 801 West Poe Rd. A private service will be held at a later date at the Wilson
Cemetery in Newark, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Village View Church of Christ or the Bowling Green.
