Franks-Eugene-obitEugene Reed Franks, 81, of Findlay, died at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Blanchard Valley Hospital.
He was born on December 1, 1931 in Van Buren to the late Eugene S. and Martha (Reed) Franks. On November 9, 1952 Gene married Cartha M. Steinhurst and she survives along with four children: Eric E. (Jody) Franks of Weston, Glenn R. (Deborah) Franks of Findlay, Laurie (Juan) Correa of Garland, TX, and Lisa (James) Rettig of Tampa, FL. Gene is also survived by one sister, Jo (Hugo) Ecklund of Houston, TX; brother Michael L. Franks of Findlay; 12 grandchildren: Carrie (Champy) Halim, Colin A. (Heather) Franks, Caitlin (Steve) King, Keith (Allyson) Franks, Clayton (Rachel) Franks, Cameron (Cynthia) Franks, Cristin Franks, Reed Correa, Carlos Correa, Blanca Correa, Christian James Trudell, Rachel Trudell; two stepgrandchildren: Janelle Cruz, Davin Jarvi; great-grandchildren Elliana Halim; and stepgreat-grandchildren: Sydney Kreischer, Wesley Kreischer, Sean Nimke and Delanie Jarvi.
Gene was a 1950 graduate of Van Buren High School.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force.
Gene was a 32nd degree Mason and was the past Master of Mt. Cory Lodge #418. Gene collected Indian Stones as a hobby and loved sports, especially Ohio State Football.
He was a journeyman electrician and worked out of Local 8 in Toledo.
He was interested in flying planes and collecting guns, which he enjoyed with his children and grandchildren. Gene is expecting four great-grandchildren soon. He also made genealogy reports on his family. His grandparents were Samuel and Jessie Franks who lived east of Van Buren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Trevor Wright and Pastor Steven King officiating. Burial will follow in Bechtel Cemetery, Van Buren, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
