Emery J. Franks, 89, of Findlay, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green.
Emery was born on September 21, 1923 in Van Buren, Ohio, to the late Jasper and Mable (Alexandra) Franks. Emery married Betty Jane Shaull and she preceded him in death. Emery later married Mary Ann (Deutschman) Franks on November 15,1980 and they shared 32 years together.
Emery worked at Garwoods, and later retired from Werk Brau, where he was a welder.
Emery proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from March 18, 1943 to September 22, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge, where he attained a Purple Heart for his service.
Emery was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #698, the Eagles, and the VFW Post 5645. He was also a lifetime member of the DAV. Emery was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria, Ohio.
He enjoyed Coon hunting with his son and nephews.
Emery is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Gordon Franks, of Toledo, Terry (Delia) Franks, of Arlington; daughter, Pat Carles, of Leesburg, FL; stepdaughter, Pam Saum, of Arlington, and Tamela (Kevin) Rogers, of Findlay; grandsons, Scott Franks, David (Karen) Saum, Terry Smith, Dalton Rogers, Kevin Rogers, and Garrett Rogers; granddaughters, Deanne (Jim) Mosher, Yvonne (Mark) True, Christine Saum, Jodi Strawbeger, Stacy King, Crystal (Brian) Swallwell, Terra Craig, and Heather Franks; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray (Nancy) Franks, and Merle (Dorothy) Franks; and godmother, Mary McComb, of Indian Lake.
Emery was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Butch Carles; brother, John Franks; sisters, Myrtlebell Roe, Evenly Daugherty and Lillian Smith; and two stepsons, Thomas and Timothy Fellers.
Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Road, Findlay (419-422-1500). Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Bechtel Cemetery with the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad performing full military rites.
Memorial contributions in Emery's name may be made to High St. United Methodist Church, Fostoria, Ohio or to Bridge Home Health and Hospice.
