A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 30 for Dr. Edwin Earle Smith, 90, of Columbus, OH, who died on June 16, 2013. The service will be held at North Broadway United Methodist Church, 48 E. North Broadway in Columbus.
Dr. Smith was a native of Sugarcreek OH, and a World War II veteran.
He was a professor emeritus of chemical engineering at The Ohio State University where he was a noted expert in fire investigation.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence Naomi (Zechiel) Smith; children, Jeffrey (Nanette) Smith of Cincinnati, Judith (Richard) Martin of Bowling Green, and Kathleen (Alan) McKnight of Columbus; grandchildren, Kathleen (Jason) Maney of Cincinnati, Emily Yuffee of Washington, D.C., Amy (Michael) McAvoy of Frankenmuth, MI, Amanda (Steven) Gloeckner of Hilliard, OH, Mark McKnight of Bradenton, FL, and Douglas (Rheta) McKnight of Columbus; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Grace (Richardson) Smith, a son Timothy, brother George, sister Alice Youngen and a twin brother, Merle.
Arrangements were handled by the Rutherford Funeral Home in Worthington, OH.
