Ginter-Donald-obitDonald Richard Ginter, 86, of Findlay passed away at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Fox Run Manor, Findlay.
He was born on March 7, 1927 in Charlotte, MI, to the late Harley Oren and Ruth (Moe) Ginter. He married Lillian Francis Matej on June 7, 1947, and she preceded him in death on February 28, 2000.
Donald is survived by his two sons; Daniel (Theresa) Ginter of Bowling Green and Dean (Vicky) Ginter of Arlington; brother, Ronald (Joanne) Ginter of St. Marys; sister, Carolyn (Bill) Winkle of Findlay; three grandchildren: Cory Ginter, Megan (Jason) Rahm, and Kathryn Ginter; and special friend, Kathy Karcher of Findlay.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: George and James Ginter.
Donald served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he was a part of the Seabees. After the Seabees he worked for his father on the B & O Railroad. He retired as a Millwright for Bendix in Fostoria.
Donald was the former fire chief in Bloomdale, past president of the Northwest Ohio Fire Association, and he sat on the Bloomdale City Council for many years. He was a former member of the North Baltimore Legion, coached little league, and also drove the bus for Elmwood High School.
Donald had a passion for bowling, high school sports, loved cars, and loved going to Polka dances with friends. Donald also loved tending to his yard and had the ability to fix anything.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, North Baltimore. Father Chris Bazar will be celebrant and burial will follow in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore, where full military rites will be conducted by the North Baltimore American Legion Post #539.
Memorials may be made to Flag City Honor Flight in lieu of flowers.
