Donald Alvin Bradford, 94, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away on October 26, 2013 at Bridge Hospice Care Center.
When asked of his birthday, Donald would recount to many, "I was born on June 11, 1919, Coon Rapids, Iowa, six o'clock in the morning, and my dad had to ride on horseback to get the doctor." If you would ask him how he knew, he'd say, "Because I was there." He was born to the late Earl and Lovelle (Beaverson) Bradford.
Donald was a veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater.
While stationed in England, he met and married his Irish bride, Teresa Blaney, on November 22, 1945. She preceded him in death November 2, 1986. Also preceding him in death were his brother, William A. Bradford, and his sister, Emily M. Manor.
Surviving him are his children, Patricia (Charles) Boney; David (Mary) Bradford; Shawn (Linda) Bradford; Dan (Jane) Bradford; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Donald was a local plaster and general contractor for many years. He used his talents to build his family's home outside of Rudolph, Ohio and resided there until 2008 when he moved to The Heritage. His last 12 years of employment were with Wood County's Building Inspection Department, retiring in 1984.
His retirement years were spent restoring two Model T's and two Model A's for himself and family. He also helped many others with their restoration projects. Nothing pleased him more than having his family over on Sundays to play in the yard and enjoy dinner together.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the DUNN FUNERAL HOME located in Bowling Green's Historical District at 408 West Wooster Street. Father Mark Davis will officiate. Interment will follow at Wood County Memory Gardens. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
