After a life of sharing stories, jokes and hugs, tractor mechanic, husband, father, and grandfather
Dennis R. Smith, 65, of rural Tiffin, told his final story of life on March 3, 2014, after battling
cancer.
With a passion for anything mechanical and a home-grown farm boy, Dennis’ life was an illustration of
faith, personal integrity, compassion and laughter.
Dennis was born Sept. 15, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio to George A. and Eileen (Williams) Smith of Bowling
Green, Ohio.
He was a graduate of the former Glenwood High School in Canton, Ohio and the Nashville Auto Diesel
College in Tennessee.
Dennis married his soul mate, Patricia (Bostdorff), on Aug. 21, 1971 in Bowling Green.
Dennis was always very proud of their children, Melissa (Jerome) Kong of Dublin, Ohio and Heidi (Glen)
Farmer of Sheboygan, WI. He enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as sharing his love of
tractors with his grandsons Marshall Kong and Gabriel Farmer.
With a special fondness for the Allis-Chalmers of his childhood, Dennis or Smitty as he was known, was a
mechanic for Streacker Tractor Sales for 42 years and a serviceman with the Ohio National Guard.
"Dad Smith" to countless students his wife taught, he was one always ready to give and receive
a hug and lend a helping hand, particularly as a member of Bascom United Methodist Church.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home
& Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Rev. Katie Treadway
officiating.
Burial will follow at Sandridge Cemetery in Bascom.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 7 at the funeral home.
In place of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatments
(FACT) of Seneca County or Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.
Condolences may be sent and the guestbook signed at www.hgmackfuneralhome.com.
