Darrel E. Hentges, 77, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Wood County Hospital.
He was born on July 14, 1935 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Oswald and Lena (Orwig) Hentges. On September 21, 1957 he married Ruth Ann (Brinker) Hentges at Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, OH.
Darrel was a 1953 graduate of Bowling Green High School and served six years in the United States Army.
His memberships included: Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, Ohio, past member of the Bowling Green Rotary Club (serving as President for one year and the club's Poet Laureate for several years), Northwest Ohio Tractor Club, and the Mid-Wood Elevator Board (serving as President for six years).
He had shown sheep at the Wood County Fair for 62 consecutive years, the longest of any exhibitor at the fair. Before the fair was held at its current location, he showed at the Fall Festival, held at the Bowling Green City Park. He was a member of the Senior Fair Board for 17 years and was the director in charge of the Sheep, Farm Products, and Catch-a-Pig Committees. Darrel served as 4-H advisor and as a member of the Wood County Advisory Board, and the County Livestock Action Project.
Darrel was an employee of the Maurer Equipment Company, a salesman for Massey Ferguson, and a clerk for Bradley Auctioneer, and a lifelong farmer and breeder of Rambouillet and Corriedale Sheep.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 55 years; Ruth Ann, daughters: Dawn (Mark) Anderson and Deanne (Jack) Corken, grandchildren: Leesa and Andy Corken, and sister: C. Evonne (Walter) Davidson. Family was of the utmost importance to Darrel, and he devoted his life to his family.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 13, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, OH with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Pastor Timothy Philabaum. Interment will be in New Belleville Ridge Cemetery, Dowling, OH. A bereavement luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services.
Consideration for memorial contributions are: the Parkinson's Foundation of Northwest Ohio, Zoar Lutheran Church or the Wood County Agricultural Society.
