Cynthia Jean (Cromer) Zwierlein passed away on April 12, 2014 surrounded by her loving family in Bowling
Green, OH after an extended battle with multiple myeloma.
She was born October 10, 1947 in Sandusky, OH, to Willard L. Cromer and Jeannette L. Roberts.
On September 7, 1968, she married Ronald E. Zwierlein in Oak Harbor, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church.
She was raised in Oak Harbor by her loving parents William H. and Jeannette L. Herl, and graduated from
Salem-Oak Harbor High School. Upon graduation she attended Bowling Green State University, where she and
Ron met.
While at BGSU she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Her teaching career began in Rochester, NY and then continued with Ron’s coaching changes including John
Carroll University, Bowling Green State University, and St. Bonaventure University.
Cynthia was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, the Bowling Green Falcons, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
She was also very involved in many organizations including the Falcon Club, the Port Clinton Yacht Club,
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Ottawa County Genealogical Society, the Ottawa County Historical
Society, and the Wolcott Family Society.
She is preceded in death by her father Willard L. Cromer, her sister Kathleen K. Skinner, her in-laws
Frederick J. and Lucille P. Zwierlein, and brother-in-law Frederick J. Zwierlein, Jr.
She is survived by her husband Ron, her children Heidi (Jason) Brown, Heather, and Chad, her parents
William H. and Jeannette L. Herl, her sisters Susan L. Herl and Jenny L. (James) Smith. She is also
survived by her brother-in-law Cornelius M. Zwierlein and her sister-in-law Mary Zwierlein, and three
grandchildren, Brooks, Quinn, and Avery Kate Brown. She was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s
Lutheran Church, 315 S. College Dr. in Bowling Green. Rev. Dennis Maurer will officiate.
Private interment will be held earlier in the week at Union Cemetery in Oak Harbor.
Per Cindy’s wishes there will be no visitation.
DUNN FUNERAL HOME is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Cynthia asked that contributions be made to MMORE (Multiple Myeloma Opportunities for
Research and Education), St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, or The Ron and Cindy Zwierlein Swimming and Diving
Endowment Fund at John Carroll University.
