Charles Wittenmyer, 100, of Arlington passed away at 6:42 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. He was born on January 2, 1912, to the late John F. and Flossie (Hanna) Wittenmyer in Rudolph, OH. He married Gertrude Metz on August 9, 1937, and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2002. Charles is survived by three sons: Wes (Debbie) Wittenmyer of Defiance, OH, John (Linda) Wittenmyer of Olive Hill, KY; and Steve (Carla) Wittenmyer of rural Arlington, OH; brothers: Bernard Wittenmyer of Salem, OH and Ernest Wittenmyer of Stanford, FL; sister, Esther Sheeks of Bowling Green, OH; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers: Alvin, Ralph, Richard, and Lyle Wittenmyer and sisters: Ethel Sartwell, Dorothy, Grace, and Mary Ellen Wittenmyer. Charles was a farmer and attended New life Assembly of God, Findlay. He was a previous member of the Jerry City United Brethren Church. Charles loved to read, mow yards, and especially loved the Lord. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012. Pastor Dutch VanderVlucht will officiate and burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio.
