Arthur Akeman, 69, of McClure, Ohio died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at his residence.
He was born August 22, 1944 in Vineland, New Jersey to the late Rollin G. and Mary A. (Jeffers) Akeman. On Sept. 19, 1992, he married Mildred Darlene (White) Akeman in Port Clinton, Ohio.
Art was a tow motor driver for Jeep, Toledo, retiring in 1999.
He served as a Captain in U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Past Commander and District Commander of AMVETS Post #711 of Bowling Green. He was also a member of the VFW in Bowling Green and American Legion in Bradner.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene, children: Tony Akeman of Oceana, Virginia, Heidi Zeibek of Michigan, stepchildren: David White of Norwalk, Patricia (Micky) Gerber of Fremont, Deanna "De De" White-Rachel of Bowling Green, Rick (Lisa) Akeman of Toledo, Jenny (Trent) Harp of Toledo, and Gilbert (Shelly) Akeman of Toledo, 21 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Michael White, and son-in-law, Ron Rachel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14 at Rodenberger Funeral Home, McClure. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler, where military honors will be accorded.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family to help with funeral expenses.
