Alvin ‘Al’ Lewis Murray, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 12, 2014 at
the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Born on June 9, 1937 to Paul Alvin and Kathryn Mae (Parrish) Murray in Toledo, Ohio, Al was a resident of
Haskins, Ohio for 48 years.
In his early 20s, Al was a scuba diver and instructor. He was a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do and was active
in Amateur Radio with the call sign WB8ABY. During his time with the radio club he was elected president
twice. Al also enjoyed preforming magic during special events.
Al had a busy professional and civic life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 and was stationed at
Fort Knox. He worked for Libbey Owens Ford for 51 1/2 years and was active with the Steelworkers Local
9, where he took on the following roles: committee man, grievance man, chairman and executive board
member for over 30 years.
Al was elected to the Haskins City Council where he also served as president.
Al was a member of the Middleton Township Fire Department for 37 years and was the fire chief for 18
years. He also served with the township EMS. Al was heavily involved with the Northwest Ohio Arson Task
Force, serving with the Wood County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit. He was also a member of the
International Organization of Arson Investigators and had earned the title of Certified Fire
Investigator.
Although Al had many professional and civic accomplishments, he was most proud and committed to his role
as father and grandfather.
Mr. Murray is survived by his son, Alvin (Kim) Murray II, his daughter, Pamela (John) Barnhart, 11
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his brother, David Murray.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kellie Murray.
Friends and family are invited to call upon Alvin’s family on Tuesday April 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8
p.m. at the Peinert Dunn Funeral Home ,7220 Dutch Rd. Waterville, Ohio. A Fireman’s Memorial Service
will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Harrington officiating.

Burial will follow at the Union Hill Cemetery. Graveside military and fireman honors will be rendered.
