Alberna Welling, age 89, of Genoa, OH, formerly of Millbury, OH, a survivor of the 2010 Lake Township tornado, passed away on Sunday morning, August 18, 2013 at the Genoa Retirement Village, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born on August 15, 1924 in Clay Center, OH to Henry and Emma (Strahtman) Wilkins. On August 11, 1945 she married Irwin Welling in Genoa, OH and he preceded her in death on July 29, 2010.
Alberna was a homemaker and worked on the family farm with Irwin where they resided for 63 years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, OH, and was a Sunday School Teacher. Her memberships also included St. John's Altar Guild, ELCW, Rebecca Circle, Ex-POW'S Auxiliary, Golden Seaway Farm Council, Farm Bureau, Lake Band Boosters, Lake PTA, and was a Den Mother for Scouts. In her spare time she loved working with flowers.
Alberna is survived by her daughters: Sharon K. (Ted) Bitter of Millbury, OH, Sandy Welling-Miller of Toledo, OH, son: Gary (Dianne) Welling of Perrysburg, OH, grandsons: Andrew (Janelle) Welling, Stephen (Leslie) Welling, Tyler (fiancé: Laurel Baker) Miller, Ethan Miller, great-grandchildren: Elijah Welling, Evelyn Welling, Madison Welling and Makenna Welling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Irwin, son-in-law: Nate Miller, sister: Lucille Norwalk and brothers: Melvin and Henry Wilkins.
Family and friends will be received at the Marsh Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from St. John's Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, OH on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 11 a.m., where there will be additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Daniel Beaudoin. Interment will be in Lake Township Cemetery, Walbridge, OH.
There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services.
