Zimmerman school and recess, family fishing night offered by park district

• Zimmerman School Time and Recess, 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Zimmerman School, 17901 Carter Road – Join the
schoolmaster for a lesson at the one room schoolhouse. After the work is finished, there will be
old-time recess games.
• Planting Natives, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, William Henry Harrison Park, 644 Bierley Ave., Pemberville –
Native plants grown in the park district’s greenhouse are ready to plant in the parks and preserves, so
join in planting some. Tools will be provided. Dress to work outdoors and bring gloves if you have them.

• Family Fishing Night, 7 to 8 p.m. May 25, W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, 29530 White Road, Perrysburg – A
ranger will be on hand to help first-time fishermen with loaner poles and worms. Children must have
adult supervision; adults must be accompanied by a child to fish.
• Planting Natives, 6 to 8 p.m. May 27, Rudolph Savanna, Rudolph Road, one-half mile north of Mermill
Road – Native plants grown in the park district’s greenhouse are ready to plant in the parks and
preserves. Join in planting some at the Rudolph Savanna. Tools will be provided. Dress to work outdoors
and bring gloves if you have them.
• Wildflower Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 28, Rudolph Savanna – They’re back and there’s nothing
like colorful spring blooms to warm up after a long, cold winter. Look for trillium, lupine, columbine
and more.
• Native Nursery Nights, 6 to 8 p.m. May 29, Reuthinger Preserve, 30730 Oregon Road, Perrysburg – Join in
on Thursday nights this summer at the Native Plant Nursery and Greenhouse at Reuthinger Preserve.
Volunteers may be asked to plant, water, weed and collect seed. Dress to work outdoors and bring gloves
if you have them.
• Stream Quality Monitoring, 1 to 3 p.m. May 31, Buttonwood/Betty C. Black Recreation Area, 27174 Hull
Prairie Road, Perrysburg – Help monitor the water quality of the Maumee River. No experience necessary.
Volunteers will go in the river, so dress appropriately and have proper footwear.
• Paddle the Pond, 4 to 7 p.m. June 2 (every Monday from June through August), W.W. Knight Nature
Preserve – Take a park district canoe for a spin on the pond. For first-timers, this is a great way to
give it a try. Canoes, paddles, life preservers and instructions are provided. There is no charge or
required supplies. Canoes will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, join a park district
ranger the first Monday of the month for more in-depth canoe instruction. No registration necessary.
