Two would-be gas thieves were reportedly held at gunpoint by a resident in rural Bowling Green late
Tuesday but ultimately got away.
The incident was reported at 11:12 p.m. at a residence in the 15000 block of Portage Road.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene on the report of a theft in progress.
A blotter entry for the incident indicated a caller said two males were "backed up to their fuel
tanks, attempting to steal the gas."
One was identified as a white male wearing black shorts, while the other was identified as a black male,
possibly 17 to 18 years of age.
At one point, the caller "advised (her) husband has them at gun point, then advised subjects took
off running towards Mitchell" Road.
The caller indicated that one round was fired at the vehicle driven by the men, characterized as a
"bright blue Mustang" but no one was apparently struck.
The entry went on to note that the "subjects originally attempted to flee in the vehicle, and almost
ran the caller over."
The matter is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Additional information was not
immediately available this morning.
