Governor Kasich recently appointed Melinda Kale from Wood Lane to serve on the Governor’s Council on
People with Disabilities. This council exists to advise the governor and general assembly on statewide
disability issues.
Kale is currently the supervisor of Laser Cartridge Express, a business providing employment for
individuals with developmental disabilities in Bowling Green. She is also an active volunteer and board
member for several local charities and organizations.
According to Wood Lane Superintendent Melanie Stretchbery, her commitment and passion as well as her
nurturing and encouraging spirit make her an ideal individual for this council.
Kale is attending her first council meeting meeting this week in Columbus.She said she is excited to have
the opportunity to help generate change that will positively affect individuals and families throughout
Ohio.
The Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities consists of 21 members, the majority of whom must be
people with disabilities. The members are appointed by the governor for three-year terms. Each member
brings a unique background of information, interests, talents, and life experiences which can be used to
enhance the goals and objectives of the council.
In addition to advising the governor and general assembly on statewide disability issues, the council
also: Educates and advocates for partnerships at the local, state and national level; promotes equality
access and independence; and development of employment opportunities. They promote the value of
diversity, dignity and the quality of life for people with disabilities. They are catalysts to create
systemic change to promote awareness of disability-related issues that will ultimately benefit all
citizens of Ohio.
