Woman dies in motorcycle crash
Body: One person was killed and four were injured following three motorcycle accidents in Wood County
over the weekend.
Bloomdale resident Angela Cook, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene following an early-morning crash
just east of Bairdstown Saturday morning.
The driver, Jeremy Albrecht, told police he was knocked unconscious, and wasn’t able to report the crash
until nearly six hours later.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Albrecht, of Findlay, driving a 2009 Yamaha Sport
motorcycle, was westbound on Route 18 with Cook as a passenger when he failed to slow or stop for the
posted stop sign warning of the sharp turn at Leathers Road, and drove into a grass-covered field.
Both Albrecht and Cook were ejected from the motorcycle, which rolled and overturned several times.
Neither was wearing helmets. The motorcycle was reportedly traveling at 70 miles per hour, according to
the sheriff’s office.
Albrecht was taken to Wood County Hospital by Bloomdale EMS with incapacitating injuries, and then
air-lifted to Toledo Hospital. Information on his condition was not immediately available this morning.

Albrecht reported that the accident occurred sometime around midnight and that he was knocked
unconscious. He sought help at a nearby residence after awakening.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene at 6:16 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
Two other motorcycle accidents resulted in injuries as well.
On Friday at 1:35 p.m., the sheriff’s office reported a crash at Ohio 65 just west of Ohio 235, northwest
of Tontogany. Sean Knapp, driving at 1990 Harley-Davidson, was eastbound on Route 65 when he lost
control and traveled off the left side of the roadway. He then continued into a property at 20018 W.
River Road and struck a large rock before being ejected from the motorcycle.
Knapp was taken by Life Flight to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, and reportedly suffered a
broken pelvis and a spinal fracture. He was expected to have surgery on the broken pelvis today.
Knapp was wearing a helmet during the incident. He was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control.

At 2:10 p.m. Saturday, the Ohio State Patrol reported a car-motorcycle accident at U.S. 20 and Tracy Road
in southwest Lake Township.
According to the report, Leon Barnum, Waterville, driving a 2008 Ford Expedition, was stopped northbound
on Tracy Road at the Route 20 intersection and then pulled away from the stop sign into the path of a
2002 Harley-Davidson driven by Stephen Oblender, of Milan.
Oblender swerved to avoid Barnum’s vehicle and lost control, laying down the motorcycle.
Both Oblender and his passenger, Mary Berger, Norwalk, were taken to St. Vincent’s with
non-incapacitating injuries by Lake Township EMS. Both were wearing helmets. Berger was reportedly
ejected from the motorcycle.
Barnum was cited with failure to yield from a stop sign.
