Dr. Ed Whipple, vice president for student affairs at Bowling Green State University, will be leaving the university July 1 to become a senior fellow with NASPA, which is the leading association for the student affairs profession. NASPA's headquarters are in Washington, D.C., along with the other national higher education associations.
Since he came to BGSU in 1994, Whipple has been instrumental in drawing attention to the value and importance of out-of-classroom experiences, BGSU President Carol Cartwright said. "He established a strong foundation for co-curricular programs and worked to ensure those programs were integrated with academic programs."
Cartwright said she will be working with incoming president Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey to make plans for the leadership transition in student affairs.
Cartwright said Whipple will be remembered for helping lead the development of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. He also was successful in increasing BGSU's focus on multicultural affairs and heightening the campus community's awareness of diversity issues.
