One man was arrested for a driving violation early this morning after it was determined that his vehicle
and a second vehicle were transporting 11 illegal aliens from Michigan to Florida.
Bowling Green Police Chief Brad Conner said the vehicles were stopped just after midnight this morning in
front of McDonald’s, 1470 E. Wooster St.
The driver of one of the vehicles volunteered that he and the others involved were all in the country
illegally, and "they were traveling to Florida" from the Grand Rapids, Mich., area.
Conner indicated that several passengers in the vehicles were juveniles unrelated to the other travelers,
which he said raised some concerns.
Police contacted Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the FBI, but they were informed
that the agencies were not interested in pursuing any of the individuals for their illegal status in the
country, and "there was no reason to further detain the individuals unless we had" charges
against them.
In the end, Edgar Barrios, 37, Grand Rapids, Mich., was arrested for driving under suspension and taken
to jail. The second driver, Elio Obispo, 28, no listed address, was cited for a traffic control device
violation.
The passengers were released.
