LIME CITY – Two men originally charged with obstruction have been indicted in the shooting of a man in Perrysburg Heights earlier this month.
Damien M. Owens, 20, Perrysburg, was indicted on one count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, in the Jan. 8 shooting. Richard E. Owens, 47, was indicted on one count of attempted complicity to murder, a first-degree felony, and one count of complicity to felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
According to court documents, Damien Owens is the owner of a Rugar Mark III automatic handgun with a silencer, which was used in the incident.
He reportedly discharged the firearm at Alec Castillo, 19, Perrysburg, in the area of Gloria and Broad Streets.
The indictment papers characterize the incident as a “drive by shooting”, as the handgun was allegedly fired from a Dodge Durango reportedly owned by Richard Owens.
The gun and the vehicle were to be forfeited according to specifications attached to the charges. The drive by shooting specification and firearm specification attached to Damien Owens’ charges carry with them an automatic 11 years in prison on each count if convicted.
Castillo was reportedly shot twice in the incident, and taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
He was released days later, and was himself subsequently arrested on an active warrant and a probation violation.
