MILLBURY – A Fremont man is dead after a three-vehicle collision on the Ohio Turnpike near the Interstate
280 interchange Tuesday.
John E. Madden, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Swanton Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at 3:14 p.m. Madden, driving a 2009 Kia
Sportage, and Randolph Clarke, Covington, Ga., driving a tractor-trailer, were stopped eastbound just
west of the interchange.
Another semi, driven by Michael R. French Jr., Pleasant Prairie, Wis., then struck Madden in the rear,
pushing the vehicle into the rear of Clarke’s vehicle.
Neither Clarke nor French were injured.
All parties wore seatbelts during the incident, and alcohol is not suspected in the crash.
The eastbound lanes of the turnpike were closed for approximately 30 minutes.
