A pickup truck was deemed a total loss after the vehicle reportedly caught fire Monday night and
damaged a residence on Ohio 582.Middleton Township Fire Chief Steve Asmus said this morning that the blaze
was reported at 11:10 p.m. at 13130 Route 582, just west of Ohio 25.Asmus said that a resident heard a noise
and went to his utility room, thinking it may have been one of the appliances. However, the man discovered
that the truck was on fire in the home’s attached garage. He was able to pull the truck out of the garage
with another vehicle.Middleton Township responded to the scene and initially called for Troy and Washington
Township to respond when the blaze was called in as a possible garage fire. They were later canceled.Asmus
said that there was extensive heat damage to the vinyl siding at the back of the residence, and the front of
a detached garage on the property was also damaged. Some smoke reportedly accumulated in the attached garage
as well.Asmus said the truck was deemed a total loss. A cause of the fire is not yet known. This is the
second fire to occur at the address in recent years. In April of 2011, a previous home was destroyed in a
blaze caused by a lightning strike.
