Trooper charged with domestic violence

A trooper with the Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol pleaded not guilty Monday to a
domestic violence charge in a Saturday incident in Bowling Green.Sgt. Shane L. Johnson, 43, Swanton, was
arraigned via video in Bowling Green Municipal Court on one count of domestic violence. The offense is a
first-degree misdemeanor.The incident was reported at a residence in the 600 block of Hillcrest Drive at
approximately 7:40 p.m. According to a police report, the female complainant stated Johnson "shook her,
pulled her hair, and struck her in the forehead" and then struck her vehicle with a hammer at least
twice as she attempted to leave the residence in her car.Johnson was living at the residence at the time of
the incident.Johnson was granted a personal recognizance bond, and a temporary restraining order was issued.
Additionally, Bowling Green Police were to remove all weapons from the residence and hold them while the
case is pending.Lt. Bill Bowers of the Toledo Patrol Post indicated that Johnson is currently on extended
sick leave, and has been since Aug. 1 of this year. However, he said that "there will be an
administrative investigation done on him once the case has been adjudicated" and he returns from
leave.Bowers said he could not disclose the reason for Johnson’s leave.The matter was continued to Jan. 29
at 9 a.m.
