Despite throngs of St. Patrick's Day revelers seen up and down Wooster Street and in the downtown over the weekend, the Bowling Green Police Division reported that the amount of criminal activity seen Saturday and Sunday was nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year.
Major Tony Hetrick, director of public service for the police division, said that the total calls for service, amounting to 241 on Saturday and Sunday, were "probably slightly elevated, but for springtime it's not uncommon for us to have a weekend that's that busy. This is like the beginning of spring for us and the busy season until school gets out."
Saturday's incidents included a number of nuisance party and related citations in the 100 block of Troup Street, the 400 block of North Main Street, and the 300 block of Campbell Hill Road.
In the 800 block of Scott Hamilton Boulevard, 31-year-old Bowling Green resident Dustin Radcliff was arrested on charges of aggravated menacing, concealed weapon, and handling of a weapon while intoxicated after he reportedly was waving multiple handguns around.
Saturday night's incidents also included numerous citations for public indecency, underage alcohol offenses, OVI, open container, assault, possession of marijuana, and disorderly conduct.
"It's what we expect," he said. "We had extra people out that night. We anticipated that it would be busy and it was."
Hetrick noted that there was less activity on St. Patrick's Day itself "because it was on a Sunday" and more than half of the city's bars were closed.
