MILLBURY - The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Bowling Green Post is currently investigating a serious injury traffic crash that occurred Monday at approximately 5:59 p.m. on Ohio 795 at the Interstate 280 on-ramp northbound, in Lake Township.
Dennis Miller, 66, of Millbury, was driving westbound on Route 795 at the on-ramp and Rickey Nontell, 50, of Toledo, was eastbound and attempted to turn north onto the on-ramp and failed to yield the right of way while turning left. Miller's vehicle struck Nontell on the passenger side, and the impact caused both vehicles to come to rest in the roadway.
A passenger in Nontell's vehicle, William Bowie, 33, of Toledo, received serious injuries and was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center by Life Flight. He remained in ICU this morning.
Miller was driving a 2001 Pontiac Montana van. He received minor injuries and was transported to Bay Park Hospital by Lake Township EMS. His vehicle received heavy damage as a result of the traffic crash and was towed from the scene.
Nontell was driving a 1988 Chevrolet Corsica. He also received minor injuries and was transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center by Lake Township EMS. His vehicle also received heavy damage as a result of the traffic crash and also was towed from the scene.
Nontell was cited for failure to yield while turning left. Neither he nor his passenger were wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol is not a factor in the crash, and the crash remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Lake Township Police Department, Lake Township Fire and EMS, Life Flight, Pat & Son's Towing, and Great Lakes Towing.
