PERRYSBURG – Area fire departments responded to a fire at a West Sixth Street business this morning.
The Perrysburg Fire Division was called to American Steel Treating, 525 W. Sixth Street, at approximately 6:15 a.m. on the report of the blaze. Perrysburg Township Fire was called for mutual aid.
β€œIt was a dust collected on one of their tempering machines,” said Perrysburg Deputy Fire Chief Wade Johnson. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the dust collector on that machine.
The fire, said Johnson, was caused by human error, and damage was estimated at $23,000. However, he said that the business would remain open today. No injuries were reported.
Crews remained on-scene for approximately one hour.
The site houses the American Steel Treating corporate offices, as well as a plant which processes more than 80 million metal parts of varying kinds per year.
