A Chicago resident and an Akron man are listed as co-defendants involving drug trafficking charges after officials found a bag of cocaine valued at $100,000.
They were among 25 individuals indicted by the Feb. 20 session of a Wood County grand jury.
Eric Michael Strickland, 45, of Chicago, was indicted for trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine and illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto grounds of a specified governmental agency.
A 2013 Toyota Camry, a rental car with Illinois license plates, was stopped on the Ohio Turnpike in Lake Township on Jan. 30, when a canine unit alerted to the vehicle. A "kilogram-sized package" of cocaine was found in the trunk, and authorities say the value of the cocaine is approximately $100,000. The box was wrapped inside a shoebox.
Upon being booked at the Wood County jail, heroin was found on Strickland resulting in the additional charge.
The driver of the vehicle Robert Duane Hammond, 29, of Akron, was also charged with both trafficking and possession of cocaine.
Others indicted include:
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Vicente Herrera, 67, of Philadelphia, operating a vehicle with a hidden compartment used to transport a controlled substance. The Ohio Highway Patrol stopped Herrera on the Ohio Turnpike in Lake Township for speeding on Dec. 17. A canine unit alerted to the vehicle and a search was ordered and the vehicle was impounded and towed for further inspection after the compartment was found.
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Lauren A. McDaniel, 18, of Perrysburg, and Estefan A. Gonzalez, 18, of Genoa, were each indicted as co-defendants for possession of LSD.
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Clarence Ruggs, 66, of Louisville, Ky., for possession of cocaine
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Thomas Griffith-Grilliot, 28, and Samantha R. Clayton, 26, both of North Baltimore, each with trafficking in counterfeit controlled substances. They were charged after selling counterfeit heroin to a confidential informant. Griffith-Grilliot was also indicted for possession of heroin.
In addition to those indicted, a bill of information was handed up for Kyle M. Cook, 25, of Perrysburg, for possession of drugs.
