Wood County Auditor Michael Sibbersen has announced his candidacy for re-election and will seek the
Republican nomination on the May 6 primary ballot.
Sibbersen has served as county auditor since 1993 and previously was chief deputy in that office.
"Serving Wood County citizens as auditor is a duty I take very seriously and one I view as a
privilege," he said. "I am also very proud of my dedicated and experienced staff, and the
services they provide."
In 2013 as Wood County’s chief fiscal officer, Sibbersen was presented with the Auditor of State Award
with Distinction by Auditor of State David Yost, for which only two per cent of Ohio’s governmental
agencies are eligible. The award criteria are based upon the highest quality financial reporting and
audit results.
For 2012 Wood County was recognized for the 17th consecutive year with the Certificate of Achievement for
Excellence in Financial Reporting by the national Government Finance Officers Association, recognizing
the strict standards met in issuing these reports. Sound financial data continues to be crucial to
ongoing accountable fiscal management.
The county auditor is responsible for local consumer protection as the sealer of weights and measures,
testing gas pumps, scales, and scanning devices throughout the county. Wood County’s program has
received the Frank P. Galo Award from the Ohio Weights and Measures Association for excellence in
administration, training, and enforcement.
In the last four years, Sibbersen has initiated the acceptance of credit cards for payment within the
office, implemented the use of social media to increase the availability of information, administered
fiscal training sessions for township officers, and launched a Township Fiscal Officer Toolbox
web-portal. The auditor’s office recently consolidated its real estate division to the second floor of
the county office building, thereby enhancing service to the public.
Sibbersen has served since 1994 as a member of the Legislative Committee of the County Auditors
Association of Ohio and currently chairs those efforts for Northwest Ohio. He has also received the
Distinguished County Auditor Award for an exceptional level of continuing education. Sibbersen is a
long-time member and former state board member of the Government Finance Officers Association of Ohio
and serves on the Finance Committee of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments.
He serves as vice president of the Wood County Community Improvement Corporation, chairman of the Tax
Incentive Review Council for Wood County, and has also represented county auditors on the Ohio Council
of County Officials, and the Auditor of State’s Regional Advisory Board.
A life-long resident of Wood County, Sibbersen is a graduate of Lake High School and the University of
Toledo. He resides in Bowling Green and is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge. He is a
member of the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club, Wood County Library Foundation Board, Wood County Historical
Society, Friends of Wood County Public Library, Wood County Township Association, Bowling Green Chamber
of Commerce, Farm Bureau, Wood County Genealogical Society, and Friends of the Parks. He formerly served
as a trustee of Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Community and member of the United Way Community
Solutions Team.
In 2013 Sibbersen was honored by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce with its Zeus Award.
