RUDOLPH – A Wood County Sheriff’s Office deputy was cited in an injury crash at Liberty Hi Road and Ohio
281 Wednesday.
The Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that at approximately 7 a.m. Dep. Samuel
Cardenas was southbound on Liberty Hi Road, responding to a reported injury crash on Ohio 18, with
lights and sirens activated.
Cardenas failed to stop at the intersection with Route 281 and struck a vehicle driven by Patricia
Rayburn, Hoytville, eastbound on Route 281.
Rayburn’s vehicle then traveled off the roadway and overturned.
Rayburn was taken by Weston EMS to Wood County Hospital with incapacitating injuries. Cardenas sustained
non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to the hospital by a sheriff’s office vehicle.
The OSP indicated that both were apparently treated and released.
Cardenas was cited for failure to yield.
Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said that Cardenas is expected back to work this week. The vehicle is
currently out of service due to the damage it sustained.
