Eight people were taken to area hospitals after a series of crashes reported in Wood County this weekend.

On Friday at 6:47 a.m., Alma Herrera, Fremont, was westbound in the 1000 block of U.S. 20 in Troy
Township when she reportedly lost control and slid into the eastbound lanes, and was struck by James
Piotrowski, Toledo.
Piotrowski’s vehicle then lost control and drove into the westbound lanes, striking Billy Smith, Fremont.

Herrera sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center by Troy
Township EMS. She was not listed as a patient there this morning.
Smith had to be extricated from his vehicle by mechanical means and also sustained non-incapacitating
injuries. He was taken by Promedica to Toledo Hospital, and his condition was not immediately available
this morning.
Piotrowski was taken to Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon, by Troy Township with possible injuries.
Herrera was cited for failure to control.
On Saturday at 3:08 a.m., Jeffry Duncan Jr., Paulding, was westbound on Kellogg Road, just east of Green
Road, when he failed to control, drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole. Duncan
sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to Wood County Hospital by Middleton Township EMS.
His passenger, Bryan Whitacre, Bowling Green, also sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken
to Wood County by Northwest 190 EMS.
Duncan was cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence, reasonable control, two counts of
driving under suspension, and a seat belt violation.
At 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, Mandy Lowery, Bloomdale, was northbound on Bloomdale road when she reportedly
swerved to avoid a deer. She then lost control and drove off the left side of the road and into a ditch.

Lowery sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken by Bloomdale EMS to Wood County Hospital. Two
passengers, Keith Weber, 9, and Landon Weber, 7, both of Bloomdale, reported possible injuries and were
taken by Bloomdale EMS to the hospital. A third passenger in the vehicle was unhurt.
