The Bowling Green Police Division has issued warrants for Hui Zang, 23, Toledo, in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of a University of Toledo Chinese exchange student.
Zang was identified by the victim as a possible second abduction victim but was later determined to have been involved in the on-line chat that convinced the victim that he should go with her to Cedar Point. Police investigation into the incident revealed that Zang had contacted several different UT students on a Chinese language site called Q Q in an effort to set up the kidnapping and robbery. While on-line she portrayed herself to be a UT student in attempts to gain the trust of potential victims. Zang was present in the vehicle when the victim was picked up and remained part of the incident during its entirety, police said.
The Aug. 19incident started with the victim being contacted about the Cedar Point trip. He was later picked up at his Toledo residence by Zang, and another woman, Brittany J. Long, 20, Toledo, who has already been arrested. Two males who were also in the car are being sought in the incident.
The group then allegedly drove to a vacant house on Palmer Avenue in Bowling Green.
The victim was reportedly taken into the house, then robbed at knife point. The suspects took his cell phone and wallet and held him there while some of them used his debit card at a location in Bowling Green.
The victim was then taken back into the car, and driven to an EconoLodge motel in Holland, where he was additionally held while the individuals attempted to make phone calls to his relatives in China in an effort to ransom him. They were reportedly unable to carry through with the scheme due to the language barrier.
The individuals released the victim late on Aug. 19. The man returned home, and then came to Bowling Green to file a police report.
The incident remains under investigation and two other suspects have been identified and charges for them are pending.
