Justin A. Eckenrode, 27, of Rossford, was arrested Nov. 4 on the charge of aggravated menacing. Police found a .223 caliber rifle with ammunition at the suspect's residence. Eckenrode was transported to the Wood County jail. Chief Glenn Goss said he was looking at the Police Department's Facebook page when he noticed that two messages had been sent from Eckenrode. Both messages included statements such as: "you will die" and "the death of others." Eckenrode was arraigned in Perrysburg Municipal Court and released on a $5,000 bond. A pre-trial hearing was set for Dec. 7. Goss said that "cyber-bullying" is a major problem among young people in schools and that steps are in place between the school district and the police to eliminate it. He added that "when it comes to adults making threats it's even more alarming. " The chief said that hiding behind a computer screen does not diminish the level of seriousness of a threat. "Posting messages like these, especially on the police department's Facebook page, is not very wise." |
