Spring has finally arrived in Downtown Bowling Green: The daffodils along Main Street greet the morning with their own sunshine while the trees and rose bushes are budding. In just a couple weeks, volunteer gardeners will help the staff from Wolf's Blooms and Berries and Allseasons Lawn and Landscape to plant the flowerpots and hang the flowering baskets from the light poles.
On Saturday, everyone can help with downtown beautification, while having a good time and possibly winning some great, locally created arts and crafts at the Pots for Posies fundraiser. Organized by Sandy Wicks the fundraiser is being held during the 21st Annual Art Walk.
Approximately 20 flower pots will be on offer. Some are covered in crochet, some decorated with paint or appliqué, and some have been completely transformed by members of the local creative community.
The funds raised for the Downtown Foundation will help defray the annual cost of about $10,000 for the downtown flower plantings.
The flower pots will be on display at Grounds for Thought, and available for bidding in a silent auction, throughout the day Saturday. Bidding will close at 7 p.m., with the winners of the auction announced during the After Art Walk Party.
All Art Walk participants, artists and visitors, are invited to the party, which starts at 6 p.m. and features music by Bob Manley and Friends.
