Wood County Park District gave its approval Tuesday to begin construction on a new parking lot and restroom system set to service the Slippery Elm Trail.
The meeting was conducted in Thompson Stone Hall at Otsego Park.
Director Neil Munger said the project, to be placed near South Maple Street off West Gypsy Lane Road in Bowling Green, will consist of 31 parking spots and indoor restrooms.
A bid for the lot came in at $117,476, while the restrooms came in over budget at $107,000. The project contains a future option to install lighting in the parking lot at an additional cost of $19,000. Munger said both aspects are a "long-awaited addition."
Construction may begin in August with completion expected by later in the fall.
Separately, Dana Nemeth, director of the Wood County Historical Society, presented board members with an update on that group's attendance policy, as the park district appoints two of its 15 members.
Nemeth reported that board members who miss three meetings in a calendar year can be replaced by a majority vote of the executive committee.
At the end of the meeting, senior naturalist Pam Menchaca gave board members an overview of restoration efforts already underway at the Carter historic farm near Bowling Green, which family members transferred to the park district in 2000.
Afterward, the board entered executive session to discuss land acquisition and personnel. No action was taken.
