Park district offers programs from garter snakes to tree ID

• Paddle the Pond, every Monday from June through August, 4 to 7 p.m., W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, 29530
White Road, Perrysburg – Take a canoe for a spin on the pond. If you have never canoed, this is a great
way to give it a try. Canoes, paddles, life preservers and instructions are provided. There is no
charge. Canoes will be used on a first-come, first-served basis. Join a ranger the first Monday of the
month for more in-depth canoe instruction. No registration necessary.
• Feeding Time: Garter Snake, 7 to 8:15 p.m. tonight, W.W. Knight Nature Preserve: Friends’ Green Room,
29530 White Road, Perrysburg – Garter snakes are one of the most common local snakes. Learn about what
makes them special and watch the program snake scarf down some grub. A short hike outside to search for
garters in the wild will finish the evening.

Native Nursery Nights, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Reuthinger Preserve, 30730 Oregon Road, Perrysburg – Join
volunteers who plant, water, weed and collect seed on Thursday nights this summer. Dress to work
outdoors and bring gloves if you have them.
• Preschoolers in the Parks: Farm Time, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Carter Historic Farm, 18331 Carter
Rd., Bowling Green – For children 3-6 years of age. Participants will enjoy a short story and a craft.
Adult companions must remain with children for this program.
• Trolley on the Trail, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Slippery Elm Trail: Rudolph parking area – Enjoy a
summer ride down the Slippery Elm Trail, ending with a picnic dinner at Cricket Frog Cove. Bring your
own picnic and some bowls, and sundaes will be provided for dessert. The trolley is open-air and can get
chilly; a light jacket is suggested.
• Spring Tree I.D., 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Baldwin Woods Preserve, 14080 Range Line Road, Weston – Can you
tell the difference between a maple and an oak? What about an elm and a hackberry? If not, this program
is for you. Come learn the identifying characteristics of a variety of our native trees.
• Bluebird Trail Maintenance, 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. June 17, William Henry Harrison Park, 644 Bierley Ave.,
Pemberville – Join a newly-formed group of volunteers to help naturalist staff maintain paths for
bluebird nest box monitoring. Bring work gloves and dress for the weather. Loppers, pruners and other
equipment will be provided.
