Paddle the pond, feed a snake during county park programs PDF Print E-mail

Astronomy, snakes, and campfires will be just some of the topics of upcoming events from the Wood County Park District.
On Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., a  "Paddle the Pond" activity will be offered at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, Perrysburg. Paddles, canoes and life-preservers will be provided. Registation is not required, and there will be no charge. Canoes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants will have at least 30 minutes on the pond. Paddle the Pond will take place the first Tuesday of each month through September.
Feeding Time at the W. W. Knight Nature Preserve, featuring a garter snake, will be held Thursday form 7 to 7:45 p.m. Attendees will learn how to handle the animal and see what its life would be like in the wild.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to maintain the native nursery beds at the Reuthinger Preserve, Northwood, on July 5 and 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees should dress for work outdoors and bring gloves if they have them.
Astronomy Basics for Boy Scouts will be held at the Knight Preserve Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees will learn some astronomy basics with a naturalist, then join members of the Toledo Astronomical Association at an observation session using the telescope at Beaver Creek Preserve. Those interested must attend an astronomy basics class before attending an observation session. (The observation session is at the Beaver Creek Preserve on July 21 starting at 9 p.m.) Registration is required.
A Look Out on Nature Area (LOONA) Garden Clean Up will be held July 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Knight Preserve. Attendees should dress to work outdoors and bring gloves if available.
A Fire Down by the River will be held July 13 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Otsego Park, Grand Rapids. Corn fritters and other treats will be made in a Dutch over.
