Otsego hosts two a cappella groups

BGSU’s Ten40, an all-male contemporary a cappella group, and GQ, a ladies vocal pop quartet from
Baltimore, Maryland, will be performing a combined concert Saturday in the Otsego High School Performing
Arts Center.
The show starts at 8 p.m. and admission is $5.
In the spring of 2007, an a cappella group was formed at BGSU called The HeeBeeBGs. They were directly
affiliated with the Men’s Chorus and performed with them on campus and tours throughout the semester.
After a few years, the group decided to become more independent and try for an identity of their own. To
make sure a piece of the HeeBeeBGs forever remained, this breakaway group adopted the number of the room
in which the chorus rehearsed: 1040. And thus, Ten40 Acappella was born in the fall of 2010. Its
repertoire consists of anything from soothing chamber music to the most energetic of pop songs, with a
few detours through barbershop, country and even a little dub-step.
GQ first starting singing together in July of 2011, and knew they stay away from traditional a cappella
arrangements and explore songs and sounds that weren’t common. In May 2012, GQ headed to San Francisco
and took home second place in the Harmony Sweepstakes’ national finals, as well as Best Original
Arrangement for their version of Mumford and Son’s "Timshel," arranged by members Katie Gillis
and Katie Macdonald. All of this within their first year as a group.
