TONTOGANY - The demolition of two Otsego elementary schools are cleared to begin.
At Tuesday's school board meeting, members approved demolition bid packages for Haskins and Weston elementaries.
Superintendent Adam Koch said the demolitions have come in at a significant savings to the district. The cost for bringing both buildings down is to be approximately $124,500, or nearly $75,000 less than the budgeted amount.
"We're good to go forward at this point," said Koch.
The demolitions are slated to begin in the next month, with the projects planned to be finished in the spring.
The district has contracts with the villages of Weston and Haskins stating the municipalities will buy the demolished properties for 45 percent of the demolition cost.
