OHP trooper cited for July 31 crash in cruiser PDF Print E-mail

HASKINS - A citation has been issued for an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper who was injured in an accident July 31.
Trooper Devon Black, 24, Bowling Green, was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control.
A crash report for the incident indicated that at 2:45 p.m. Black, driving a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car, was northbound on Liberty Hi Road just south of Robinson Road when he drove off the side of the roadway, then overcorrected, and went off the right side of the road. He then went into a ditch and overturned.
Black was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, by air ambulance following the crash, having sustained a reported head injury.
He was wearing a seat belt at the time, and had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means.
Black has since been released from the hospital.
A statement by Black in the report indicates that he had been looking down to fix the cord for his car's radio prior to the crash. The report states that he was traveling at 67 miles per hours prior to the crash. The posted speed is 55 miles per hour.
