|October trial set for large drug ring|

TOLEDO - A trial has been set in the case of a nearly 30-member drug ring that operated for over a decade in Northwest Ohio, including specific activities in Wood County.
The trial is set for Oct. 22 in U.S. District Court. The case has been assigned to Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick.
According to the indictment, the group obtained marijuana and cocaine from Texas and Mexico, and then distributed it throughout the Northwest Ohio region between 2002 and 2012.
"During the course of the conspiracy, over 1,000 kilograms of cocaine and over 100 kilograms of marijuana were distributed" in the area, the indictment alleges.
One defendant, Mario Vasquez, Toledo, was arrested after he attempted to possess eight kilograms of cocaine near Northwood.
The drugs were seized by law enforcement officers. Other defendants reportedly used an address in Perrysburg as a site to deliver drugs and collect money.
The ring reportedly engaged in additional activities taking place throughout the Toledo area and Fremont.
Also listed as defendants are Lionel Perez, Brigido Herrera, Augustin Lara, Jose Lara, Juan Resendez, Francisco Rodriguez, Eliza Perez, James Nunn, Leopoldo Pecina, Marcus Barrera, Jose Rodriguez III, Juan Valdes, Marwin Payne, Cato Hornbeck, Joe Arguelles Jr., Joseph Malino, Angelo Pecina, Reynaldo Chavez, Sergio Perez, Esequiel Perez, Mauricio Sandoval, Christina Rodriguez, Ricardo Pizana Jr., Melissa Gonzalez, David Smith, Moises Razo, and Francisco Salazar.
