Plants, seeds and even timberdoodles will be the subject of upcoming activities from the Wood County Park District.
Tonight at 6:30 at the Reuthinger Preserve, Northwood, a Growing Plants From Seed forum will be held. Come and get a lesson on how to grow some of your favorite plants from seed. Be prepared with your own list of "dos and don'ts".
Spring buds will be the focus Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the W. W. Knight Preserve, Perrysburg. Look for signs of the coming green frenzy - nature is getting ready to throw off its covers. Take a close look as winter melts away, revealing secrets hidden by tight winter wraps.
Garlic mustard removals will be held March 23 at 10 a.m. at the Bradner Preserve; March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at W. W. Knight; and March 28 at 6:30 p.m. at William Henry Harrison Park, Pemberville. Help the Park District improve wildlife habitat by fighting one of the worst invasive species in the area. Dress to work outdoors. All tools will be provided and no experience is necessary.
A Timberdoodle Watch will be also be held March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Slippery Elm Trail's Cricket Frog Cove area. Bring a lawn chair and sit back and relax while awaiting the timberdoodles (aka woodcocks) to emerge from the fields to perform their song and dance. Hot chocolate and a snack will be provided.
"The Woodcocks Are Back!" will be the topic March 26 at 7:45 p.m. at the Baldwin Preserve. Spring can't be far behind these early birds singing and flying for their potential mates. Come and see the "sky dance" immortalized by Aldo Leopold.
"Nature Fools" will be featured April 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Slippery Elm Trail's Rudolph Savanna. Attendees should meet in the Rudolph parking lot. Some of nature's "silly tricks" will be revealed in this program.
