A man implicated in the theft of more than $6,000 worth of cigarettes from Kroger on North Main Street was arrested early this morning.
William Cody Hisle, 23, Northwood, was arrested on a charge of felony theft.
He was being held in the Wood County jail this morning without bond, and was expected to appear in court today.
Maj. Tony Hetrick of the Bowling Green Police Division said that Hisle was part of a cleaning crew at the store.
“They suspected that a cleaning member was stealing,” Hetrick said. “So they topped off the cigarette cartons in their storage area,” and Hisle was reportedly caught on video taking packs and cartons of Newport cigarettes on Oct. 31 and on Nov. 4 – more than $1,195 worth during those two instances alone.
It is believed he’s stolen more than $6,000 worth of cigarettes from the store over the past month.
Store management reportedly confronted Hisle after the most recent incident, and he allegedly admitted to taking the merchandise.
Police were called to the scene just before 2 a.m.
Hetrick said that no other members of the cleaning crew were implicated in the thefts.
“He acted alone.”
