Nine vehicles were broken into Wednesday evening at Carter Park.
Maj. Tony Hetrick of Bowling Green Police said this morning that officers were alerted to the incidents around 7 p.m. when a white male, approximately 5'10" in height, was observed running from the Carter Park area. The man was not located by police.
Officers began checking the parking lot and discovered the vehicles had been broken into, many with windows broken out.
Various items, including a jacket and a purse, were stolen in the incidents.
A short time later, one of the credit cards taken in the thefts was used at a gas station in North Baltimore, but video was not available. Police do not have a suspect.
"It happens from time to time in the ball fields," said Hetrick, noting that these were the first such incidents to be reported this summer.
The incidents often occur "when large amounts of vehicles are there. People are watching the games, they're not watching their vehicles."
Hetrick advised that drivers should "park in an area where you can keep an eye on it. Be sure that it's secure," and drivers should either stow valuables in the trunk or take them with them.
"Make sure your valuables are secure," Hetrick said.
Similar incidents were reported Monday at the City Park.
Two vehicles were broken into there, and a woman's purse was stolen from one of them, between 6:15 and 8 p.m.
